
Lipscomb Athletics Announces Staff Promotions and New Leadership Addition

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Lipscomb University Director of Athletics Philip Hutcheson announced today the promotion of three current staff members and the addition of a new hire to the athletics leadership team, with all changes effective immediately.
Hannah Jo Riley, Alex Schock, and Spencer Barnabee have been elevated to Assistant Athletic Director roles, while Cam May joins the department as Assistant Athletic Director for Events, Facilities and Operations.

"One of our core goals is to develop and empower talent from within. Hannah Jo, Alex, and Spencer have consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication, innovation, and leadership in their respective areas. Their elevation, along with the addition of Cam's expertise in facilities and operations, positions Lipscomb Athletics for continued growth and success as we strive for excellence in the Atlantic Sun Conference and beyond."
Riley has been a vital part of the Lipscomb Athletics staff since joining as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications in February 2021, quickly rising through the ranks to Associate Director in 2022 and Director later that year. She has served as the primary sports information contact for men's soccer, men's and women's golf, men's and women's basketball, and baseball, while overseeing all sports information efforts across Lipscomb's 17 Division I programs. Riley has also overseen social media efforts, website development, and website maintenance since being named Director of Communications in 2022.
Prior to Lipscomb, Riley served as Assistant Director of Athletic Communications at Virginia Commonwealth University, where she was the primary contact for baseball and men's and women's soccer while supporting both basketball programs. She also worked as a graduate assistant at Belmont University, managing media relations for men's soccer and baseball and running social media during Belmont's historic 2019 NCAA Tournament run. During her time in Nashville, Riley contributed to communications efforts for Nashville Soccer Club during its inaugural USL season and MLS brand launch.
Riley earned her B.A. in Entertainment Industry Studies/Sports Media from Belmont University's Curb College in 2017, graduating cum laude, and completed her Master of Sport Administration at Belmont in 2019.
Schock brings a diverse professional background and strong Division I experience to her elevated position. Prior to her compliance work at Lipscomb, she gained valuable business operations experience in the University of Oklahoma athletics department. Before transitioning to collegiate athletics administration, Schock spent nearly four years at Advent in Nashville, where she served as Updates Coordinator and Fabrication Team Coordinator, developing strong project management and organizational skills.
Schock, a 2014 graduate of Harding University with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Relations, was deeply involved in campus media during her undergraduate years, serving as Sports Editor for The Bison student newspaper and writing for both the newspaper and Petit Jean yearbook.
In his previous role as Director of Marketing, he led marketing strategy for all programs, driving brand growth, fan engagement, and community visibility through strategic campaigns across digital, social, email, and in-venue channels. He oversaw gameday marketing operations and sponsor activation and led community outreach and youth programming, including the Junior Bison Club. Barnabee has served as the primary liaison with event management, communications, ticketing, and external operations to ensure cohesive execution of departmental priorities while strengthening campus engagement through student-focused promotions and partnerships with university departments.
A magna cum laude graduate of Lipscomb University, Barnabee earned his Bachelor of Arts in Sports Media in 2022 and completed his Master of Arts in Christian Ministry in 2025 while being active in the Lumination Network and FCA, serving as a campus tour guide, and consistently being recognized on the Dean's List and Honor Roll. His expanded role will include game administration and sport administration responsibilities.
May brings exceptional institutional knowledge and a proven track record to the position. Most recently, he served as Lipscomb's Event Operations Manager, leading event operations for university programs and special events, serving up to 5,000 attendees while supervising both full-time employees and seasonal student staff. He successfully oversaw summer housing operations for camps and conferences, coordinating logistics across multiple residence halls for programs accommodating up to 1,400 overnight guests.
Previously, as Event Services Coordinator, May coordinated ticketing logistics and operations for more than 50 annual events and developed a digital request system that improved workflow efficiency and client communication. He also developed emergency preparedness resources for summer housing operations, including evacuation protocols and communication plans for various scenarios.
A Lipscomb alumnus who earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a 4.0 GPA in 2022, May was selected as an inaugural member of the Lipscomb University Staff Council, representing staff perspectives and contributing to university-wide initiatives. He completed his Master of Arts in Christian Ministry in 2027. His role will include game and tournament administration as well as sport administration responsibilities.

Riley, previously the Director of Athletic Communications and Digital Media, has been promoted to Assistant A.D. for Communications and Brand Development. In her expanded role, Riley will oversee Sports Information, ESPN+ broadcasting, Licensing and Branding, Digital Media, and Athletics Social Media. Alex Schock – Assistant A.D. for Compliance
Formerly the Director of Compliance, Schock has been elevated to Assistant A.D. for Compliance. In this role, Schock will have direct oversight of the department's comprehensive compliance program, ensuring adherence to all NCAA, Atlantic Sun Conference, and university regulations. Her responsibilities include leading rules education for coaches and staff, monitoring recruiting activities, overseeing student-athlete eligibility and financial aid administration, and managing waiver processes and institutional reporting. Spencer Barnabee – Assistant A.D. for Revenue Generation and Game Experience
Barnabee, who most recently served as Director of Marketing, has been promoted to Assistant A.D. for Revenue Generation and Game Experience. In this role, Barnabee will help drive the department's financial growth while crafting an exceptional end-to-end fan journey. He will oversee attendance and revenue-generation initiatives, as well as the game-day product, ensuring seamless alignment among marketing, ticketing, and game atmosphere to maximize attendance and income.
