NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Breaking up a stretch of six games on the road, Lipscomb men’s basketball returns to action at Allen Arena at 4 p.m. on Saturday afternoon to take on Tennessee State in nonconference action.
The first 400 fans will receive special Christmas T-shirts and Santa Claus himself will be on hand to take pictures with all the little Bisons.
The contest features the first meeting at Allen Arena between the two cross-town foes since 2002. Despite the proximity of the two schools, the Bisons and Tigers have met only three times previously with Lipscomb taking 2-of-3 in the series. The two teams met a year ago at the Gentry Center with the Bisons claiming a 75-70 victory over TSU.
The contest marks the first meeting between Lipscomb head coach Casey Alexander and TSU’s head man Dana Ford, who is in his first year as a head coach.
Inside the herd:
- Sophomore guard Josh Williams sits atop the A-Sun scoring leaders averaging 16.6 points per game. Williams has now scored in double figures in each of the last nine contests for the Bisons a figure that leads the A-Sun. He ranks tied for 16th nationally in scoring among sophomore guards.
- Senior forward Malcolm Smith is within striking distance of moving into second place on the Lipscomb NCAA Division I charts ahead of former standout Adnan Hodzac, who sank 403 from the line during his career. Malcolm Smith has 394 at present ranking 15th in A-Sun history. Josh Slater owns the top mark at Lipscomb with 484 freebies in his career as a Bison.
- Freshman guard Nathan Moran has made an early impact in just six games averaging 9.9 ppg including leading the Bisons with a 16-point effort against Transylvania and a 17-point afternoon at Colorado. The newcomer ranks 2nd in the A-Sun averaging 2.6 treys per game.
- Senior forward Martin Smith joined twin brother Malcolm as a member of the 1,000 point club at Lipscomb in the second game of the season. Martin became the 44th member of the exclusive list with a 3-pointer early in the first half against Belmont.
