Women's hoops drops tough road matchup with ASUN-leading JU

Box Score

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Lipscomb (4-16, 1-4) women’s basketball entered the night faced with an uphill battle as they took on ASUN-leading Jacksonville (16-4, 5-0) on the road. Despite giving the Dolphins a tough battle, the Lady Bisons fell 84-60.

Lipscomb held close with JU throughout most of the second half, before letting a late Dolphins run put the game out of reach.

Freshman Lauren Rau led a balanced scoring attack with a career-high nine points on 3-4 shooting.

Juniors Loshaveon Jones, Meredith Lovelady, and Amber Fuqua and senior Alex Banks each notched eight points. Banks led the team with seven rebounds followed by Jones’ five.

Junior Loren Cagle added seven points and a team-high four assists, while junior Laure Assena earned seven points and four rebounds.

Head Coach Greg Brown’s Thoughts:

“We fought hard to get it back to nine and 10 multiple times, and those are the times we have to sustain and finish possessions with rebounds and get the tough baskets in the paint.

“Jacksonville is a very good team, and we believe we are improving each day. We want to take the positives and build as we go to NJIT next.”

QUICK HITS:

  • Three Dolphins finished the game in double-figures: Brandi Buie (26), Sherranda Reddick (23), and Kayla Gordon (10).
  • Lipscomb’s bench outscored JU’s 41-15.
  • Lipscomb was out-rebounded 42-35, and lost the assist battle 10-8.
  • A season-best seven Lady Bisons scored seven or more points on the night.

UP NEXT: The Lady Bisons will continue their first ASUN road stretch with a visit to NJIT for a noon matchup on Saturday.
