Injury-depleted Lady Bisons fall in 'Battle' at Belmont

NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb women’s basketball team brought an injury-ravaged roster into the Curb Event Center on Tuesday night, falling to Belmont 83-43 in the Battle of the Boulevard.

Lipscomb (2-6) only dressed out eight players in the loss, with seven playing 20-plus minutes.

Belmont (5-3) hit a season-high 17 three-pointers to help earn the win.

Lipscomb came out strong, keeping pace with the Bruins early on. At the midway point of the first quarter, the Lady Bisons trailed 9-8 thanks to three-pointers from sophomore Taylor Clark and junior Carleigh Short.

The Bruins answered with a 21-0 run to close the first half, entering the break with a 42-18 lead.

After starting out the second half with a quick 11 points in three minutes, highlighted by a four-point play from freshman Jane Deason, Belmont answered with a 17-2 run of their own to help push the game out of reach.

Deason paced Lipscomb with a team-high 11 points and five rebounds.

The Lady Bisons second-leading scorer Emily Kmec led a contingent of players sidelined due to injury, including freshmen Kailey Rosenbaum and Taylor Hammack.

  • Belmont now leads the all-time series 47-28.
  • Clark’s five-game double-digit scoring streak to start the season ended in the loss.
  • Junior Lauren Rau dished out a team-high four assists
  • Short tied for the team lead with a career-high five rebounds.
  • Ellie Harmeyer led Belmont with 15 points and eight rebounds. Three Bruins finished in double-figures.
  • Belmont out-rebounded the Lady Bisons 49-27, and notched 22 assists to Lipscomb’s eight.
  • The Lady Bisons swiped 10 steals, led by three each from Rau and Anna Hammaker.
  • Lipscomb shot a nearly perfect 10-11 mark from the charity stripe, led by a 6-6 performance from Rau.

The Lady Bisons will finally be back in Allen Arena as they are set to take on UT Martin on Sunday at 4 p.m.
