Box Score JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Lipscomb women’s soccer team fought its way to a hard-earned victory against Jacksonville on Thursday night by a score of 2-1.
The Bisons and Dolphins squared off at Southern Oak Stadium for a crucial ASUN conference match that saw the first 45 minutes of action come to a 0-0 draw.
Lipscomb tallied 10 shots with six coming on goal in the first half, while Jacksonville had four shots with three on goal.
The second half saw less scoring opportunities for both squads, but the scoreless match was finally broken in the 86th minute with a goal from freshman Molly Grant to give Lipscomb a 1-0 lead.
After a turnover by the JU defensive line in its own zone, the Bisons were able to capitalize as Olivia Doak found Grant on a cross in the middle of the box and the freshman finished it off with a shot in the upper left corner of the goal.
40 seconds later, Lipscomb scored its second goal and it was Grant who put the ball in the back of the net again.
The Bisons were able to gain control off of the restart and quickly went on the attack. Grant took the ball into the left side of the box and after her initial shot was blocked, she settled the ball and let one fly into the goal to give the Purple and Gold a 2-0 lead with under five minutes remaining.
The Dolphins made a late push for a comeback and were able to cut the Bisons lead in half on a goal from Olivia Abdallah in the 88th minute, but it was too little too late as the Bisons held on for the win.
