Women's hoops closes out MAAC\ASUN Challenge with loss to Marist

Box Score

ORLANDO, Fla. - It was too little too late for the Lipscomb women’s basketball team on Saturday afternoon as the Lady Bisons comeback bid fell short in a 74-63 loss to Marist in their second game of the MAAC\ASUN Challenge.

The first half of action was tightly contested, as the Red Foxes led by just one, 31-30, at the halftime break.

But a 20-1 Marist run in the third quarter, and a 24-6 overall third quarter difference, broke the game open in favor of the Red Foxes.

Lipscomb fought hard for a comeback in the fourth, scoring a flurry of points and forcing several turnovers in the final few minutes of play, but Marist held on despite being outscored 27-19 in the final frame.

Junior Taylor Clark led Lipscomb with a double-double, scoring a season-high 19 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. She shot 4-7 from the field and 9-13 from the free throw line.

Freshman Jalyn Holcomb was integral in the comeback attempt, scoring eight of her 14 points in the fourth quarter.

Freshman Casey Collier filled up the box score, collecting 11 points, four rebounds, and team-highs with five assists and three steals.

Lipscomb falls to 1-5 with the loss, while Marist improves to 5-0.
