NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb men’s basketball team is set to take the trip across I-40 on Monday night for a 6 p.m. nonconference contest against Tennessee Tech at the Eblen Center in Cookeville, Tennessee.
The game will be the 52nd meeting all-time between the two Purple and Gold schools with the Eagles owning a 42-9 advantage in the series history. However, it will be the first battle between the schools since 2017.
ESPN+ is slated to carry the game live.
SERIES HISTORY:
- Tech won the last meeting 86-80 in 2017 after the home team visited the free throw line 49 times, compared to 24 for the Bisons. Garrison Mathews scored 18 to lead the team.
- The Eagles hold a 24-3 all-time against Lipscomb at home.
- Lipscomb won at the Eblen Center on Dec. 1, 2016 by a score of 81-79.
SCOUTING TENNESSEE TECH:
- The Eagles enters the matchup 2-5 on the year after winning a 61-58 decision on the road at Winthrop on Thursday. Their only other win came Nov. 9 at home against Martin Methodist.
- TTU has only reached 70 points in a game once this season, and its 57.7 points per game is last in the Ohio Valley Conference. The Eagles are allowing their opponents to score 67.7 points each time out, the fifth-best mark in the league.
- The Eagles are led by Hunter Vick in the scoring column, averaging 10 points per game and shooting above 44 percent from the field. Darius Allen (9.4) ranks right behind and it tied with Vick with 2.3 three-pointers made per game. Keishawn Davidson also chips in 9.0 points per game.
- Amadou Sylia is the team’s leading rebounder at 7.4 boards per game to go along with his 8.9 points.
STATS AND NOTES:
- Lipscomb is coming off its first road win of the season at Navy after leading the country in that category with 14 a season ago.
- Lipscomb leads the conference in forcing opponents into 16.7 turnovers per game, and ranks 38th in Division I after being whistled for just 14.3 fouls each time out.
- The Bisons are second in the ASUN in scoring offense (70.0), field goals made (25.8), field goals attempted (59.2), field goal percentage (43.7), defensive rebounds per game (27.8), blocks (3.8), and opponents three-point percentage (28.9).
- Sophomore Ahsan Asadullah earned his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds.
- Asadullah is averaging a double-double on the year behind 13.0 ppg and 11.8 rpg. He ranks 3rd in the country pulling down 9.40 defensive boards per game, and 10th total rebounding. He is one of only 13 players with at least three double-doubles this season.
- KJ Johnson dazzled in his first start on the road at Navy Friday. He poured in a career high 18 points and has now led the Bisons in scoring three times on the year. He shot 8 of 13 from the field.
- Johnson ranks second in the ASUN in free throws made (20).
- Miles Miller scored a career high 14 points at Navy after knocking down four first-half triples. He played a season high 33 minutes and dished out a team high six assists in the win.
