12 three's not enough as women's hoops fall at UT Martin

Box Score

MARTIN, Tenn. - The Lipscomb women’s basketball team dropped a Monday morning matchup at UT Martin 83-67 in the Elam Center.

Lipscomb shot well, making 48 percent of their baskets (20-42) and hitting a season-high 12 of their 27 three-point attempts, but the Skyhawks full-court pressure defense proved to be the Lady Bisons undoing as they turned the ball over 22 times.

The action consisted of back and forth runs early, with Lipscomb’s 11-2 run in the second quarter putting the Lady Bisons in the lead. But the Skyhawks answered, taking a 36-29 lead into the break.

Lipscomb cut the UTM lead down to single digits, 68-61, with five minutes to go in the fourth, but it wasn’t enough as the Skyhawks pulled away for the win.

Freshman Blythe Pearson led the way for the Lady Bisons, dropping a career-high 20 points off the bench. She shot a blazing 7-10 from the field and 5-7 from three-point range.

Fellow freshman Jalyn Holcomb was Lipscomb’s other double-digit scorer, notching 16 points, grabbing five rebounds, and tying for the team lead with five assists.

Casey Collier rounded out the trio of top freshman performers, scoring nine points, earning a team-best seven rebounds, and tying Holcomb for the team lead with five assists.

Lipscomb falls to 2-9 with the loss, while UTM improves to 4-5.
