Box Score NASHVILLE - The Lipscomb men’s soccer team lost against cross-country opponent Santa Clara 2-0 on Friday.
The first 30 minutes were scoreless but promised plenty of goals to come. Both sides put together positive attacking plays, but neither side had any goals to show for it.
That all changed in the 33rd minute, when Santa Clara (4-3-1) took the lead through a goal by Alan Jonathan Camacho Soto from the edge of the box. His effort slipped into the bottom corner of the net and gave the Broncos the lead they would take with them into the halftime break.
The referee issued three yellow cards during the first half, two of which went against Santa Clara and one of which went to Lipscomb’s Daniel Muhlbauer. Two more yellows were issued in the second half, including one to the Bisons Scott Gulden.
The second half was tense and packed with opportunities on both sides, but once again, it took thirty minutes for the breakthrough.
In the 78th minute, Santa Clara doubled their lead with a goal from Alejandro Barajas. From there, Santa Clara defended well and kept Lipscomb’s attack at bay to hold the clean sheet and finish off the match.
The Bisons fall to 2-4-1 with the loss, going 1-2-1 in their four-game home stand.
