Women's basketball starts ASUN play with loss at FGCU

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Lipscomb women’s basketball team opened up ASUN play with an 82-56 loss at No. 25 FGCU on Saturday afternoon in Alico Arena.

The Lady Bisons held close early on, but the potent Eagles offense broke the game open late in the third quarter and continued their win-clinching run throughout the fourth.

Lipscomb trail by just six, 17-11, after the first period thanks to a strong start from Casey Collier. The freshman ended up leading the team in points with 14, rebounds with eight, and assists with five. 

Three other Lady Bisons scored in double-figures. Junior Taylor Clark tied Collier for the team lead with 14 points and also added six rebounds and a block. 

Freshman Jalyn Holcomb notched 13 points, four rebounds, and a team-best three steals. 

Senior Carleigh Short added 10 points, including two third quarter three-pointers.

Lipscomb falls to 3-11 with the loss, while FGCU improves to 14-2.

HERD NOTES:

  • Tytionia Adderly paced FGCU with 21 points. Nasrin Ulel (18), Keri Giles-Jewett (16), and Kerstie Phills (10) each also scored in double-figures.
  • Lipscomb has yet to defeat FGCU since the conference foes joined the ASUN. 
  • All seven Lady Bisons to enter the game played at least 17 minutes. Collier logged the most with 38 minutes played. 
  • FGCU out-rebounded Lipscomb 42-32, and had a 15-7 assists advantage. 
  • Lipscomb 12-17 from the free throw line, led by an 8-11 clip from Collier. 


UP NEXT: Lipscomb will continue their first ASUN road trip with a visit to Stetson on Monday. Tip is set for 6 p.m.
