Bison Basketball Unveils Full 2020-21 Schedule

NASHVILLE – Lipscomb basketball 2nd-year head coach Lennie Acuff unveiled the Bisons 2020-21 schedule that includes 14 home games inside Allen Arena.

All Division I schedules have been reduced from a maximum of 31 games to 27 games due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving the Bisons with 11 nonconference games and 16 ASUN Conference contests as of Friday.

The adjusted schedule also has ASUN opponents playing one another in a two-game series on the same weekend on consecutive days.

Unanimously recommended by the Athletics Administrators Committee and supported by the athletic trainers and the ASUN Medical Advisory Board, the ASUN Presidents' Council unanimously approved the new schedule earlier this week. The amended format dramatically reduces the amount of contact among all league teams to minimize the risk of spreading the coronavirus and incidence of COVID-19.

After some late shuffling of the slate, Lipscomb will now open the year at home on Nov. 25 against Campbellsville Harrodsburg at 7 p.m. before going on the road to 'The Big Easy' with a pair of games against Lamar (Nov. 28) and Tulane (Nov. 29).

From there, the Bisons stay on the road for two of their biggest nonconference contests against Cincinnati (Dec. 2) and Arkansas (Dec. 4).  The trip to the Queen City marks the third time Lipscomb will square off with the Bears and the first time since 2016. The visit to Fayetteville will be the first for the purple and gold in 16 years when the teams matched up in 2004.

Two days later, the Bisons will begin a home-and-home with Southeast Missouri out of the Ohio Valley Conference. Lipscomb visits Cape Girardeau on Dec. 7, before returning to the Music City for its home opener Dec. 9.

Next up on the docket is the annual Battle of the Boulevard as Belmont makes the trek to Allen Arena on Dec. 12. The Bruins were picked to finish third in the OVC preseason poll behind junior all-conference selections, Nick Muszynski and Grayson Murphy.

The Bisons will finish off their home stand and nonconference slate through the month of December, welcoming Trevecca (Dec. 15), Crowley's Ridge (Dec. 21) and Freed-Hardeman (Dec. 29).

With the ASUN's latest announcement this week, league play will open up on New Year's Day. The Bisons host reigning conference champion Liberty on Friday (Jan. 1) and Saturday (Jan. 2) in a rematch of the last two ASUN Finals. From there, the purple and gold travel to league newcomer Bellarmine for two games (Jan. 8-9) before welcoming FGCU on Jan. 22-23 after a bye week.

Lipscomb continues the trend heading to Stetson the following weekend (Jan. 29-30) ahead of hosting Kennesaw State (Feb. 5-6) in Nashville. The Bisons close out the season with road trips to Jacksonville (Feb. 12-13) and North Alabama (Feb. 26-27), sandwiched around the final home games with North Florida (Feb. 19-20).

SAFETY
All Bisons Care is Lipscomb's comprehensive plan to keep our campus and community safe by limiting the spread of Covid-19. The plan is based on the following premises: prevention, robust responses, investments, staffing and guidelines.
As it relates to Allen Arena, the University has invested in sanitizing stations, social distancing guidelines and signage to combat the spread of the virus. In addition, in an effort to provide physical distancing for all fans inside the arena, we will be reducing seating to roughly 20% of Allen Arena's total capacity by implementing and enforcing the following:
  • The aisle seat on each end of an open row will be unavailable.
  • Each row will be broken into pods in groups of two, four or six depending on the size of the rows in each section.
  • Each pod will be separated with a minimum six-foot buffer between available seats.
  • Every-other-row will be unavailable to allow for a minimum six-foot buffer between rows of fans.
  • For at least the start of the season, the reserved chairs behind the Bisons team benches will be pushed in to allow for the ASUN mandated 12' distance between players and fans.
  • We will follow all Davidson County social distancing and capacity guidelines, including up-to-date mask policies. At this time, fans that are ages 12 & up will be required to wear masks at all times while in Allen Arena unless you are actively eating or drinking.
