Women's basketball falls to hot-shooting FGCU in ASUN Tournament

Box Score

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Lipscomb women’s basketball team ran into a hot-shooting FGCU squad in the first round of the ASUN Tournament on Saturday night as the Lady Bisons fell 105-71 to the Eagles in Alico Arena.

The top-seeded Eagles were locked in from the beginning, opening up the game on a 30-2 run. The eight-seed Lady Bisons fared better in the following three periods, mostly staying in lockstep with FGCU. But the lead the Eagles had built in the first period was too much to overcome. FGCU hit 11 of their 20 three-pointers in the first half to take a 65-22 lead into the halftime break.

The Lady Bisons came out of the break and won the third quarter thanks to a 8-0 run with five of the points coming from sophomore Jane Deason. The Purple and Gold drained seven three-pointers in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to catch the Eagles.

Freshman Jalyn Holcomb led Lipscomb with 15 points and she also grabbed four rebounds and two steals.

Junior Taylor Clark added 14 points and five rebounds.

Senior Carleigh Short notched 13 points and tied for the team high with four assists in her final game in the Purple and Gold, while fellow senior Emily Kmec grabbed a team-best eight rebounds to go along with six points, one steal, and one block in her final Lipscomb game.

Lipscomb falls to 7-23 with the loss, while FGCU improves to 29-3.
