LYNCHBURG, Va. - It was a tale of two games for the Lipscomb women's basketball team as the Lady Bisons rebounded from yesterday's loss to nearly pull off an upset at Liberty, falling 76-66 in overtime.
Senior Taylor Clark and sophomore Casey Collier led the charge for Lipscomb, each scoring 22 points, with Collier setting a new career high in the process. The duo combined for 44 of the team's 66 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lady Bisons (3-5) and Liberty Flames (6-3) battled back and forth all afternoon. Eight first quarter points from Clark gave Lipscomb an early lead through the first quarter and much of the second.
But a 9-0 Liberty run pulled the Flames ahead by one, 23-22, at the halftime break. Clark led all scorers in the first half, scoring 12 of Lipscomb's 22 points through 20 minutes.
The second half was Collier's turn to take the game over, as the point guard pulled Lipscomb back into the lead with an eight-point third quarter.
Collier stepped it up again in the fourth, scoring nine points to keep Lipscomb within striking distance.
The two teams traded baskets in the final seconds as Clark and Liberty's Ashtyn Baker scored in the final six seconds, leaving Liberty ahead by two.
That's when Jordan Peete was sent to the line with just 0.9 seconds left. The freshman drained both free throws to tie the game at 63-63, sending it to overtime.
Sophomore Jalyn Holcomb buried her first triple of the afternoon to open up overtime, but the Flames scored the next 13 points to win 76-66.
