Where Are They Now? Cally Warren - Women's Soccer

Cally Warren was an all-around athlete in high school winning 16 letters, but none of them were for playing soccer. But in college, she was a defender for the Lipscomb women's soccer team, starting all 19 games her freshman year and continuing as a starter throughout her career. She was a member of the ASUN All-Academic Team. She paused to discuss her memories of her days at Lipscomb for Lipscombsports.com.

Name and sport played:

Cally Warren - Soccer

What years did you compete for Lipscomb, and who coached you?

2006-2009. Jon Ireland was the head coach.

What teammates were most memorable, and why?

I have memories about everyone.  We always found the humor in the bad parts.

What degree have you earned, from where, and when?

Exercise Science from Lipscomb University in 2010.

Why did you attend Lipscomb?

When I told my mom I was going to Nashville for a recruiting trip she called the coach to make sure it wasn't a scam.  I never played soccer in high school, rather I ran cross country/track and Nordic skied.  Sasha Sack was my host, and we had such a great time at Lipscomb and in Nashville that I wanted to be a part of it.

What is your favorite athletic memory at Lipscomb?

The memories that stand out the most to me are how difficult parts of it were.  Having practice Monday-Friday at 6 a.m., 130 minutes of fitness during pre-season, and when half the team got in trouble at study hall for watching a Harry Potter puppet video on YouTube. As punishment, they had to do a ridiculous amount of board pushes around the arena and then practice afterward.

Another time we lost a game and were all starving, and the bus pulled off the freeway, drove down the highway, did a U-Turn and got back onto the freeway – we were rationing out goldfish (we did end up getting dinner later).  Those are my favorite memories because even though times were hard, our group of girls grinded through and still ended the day with smiles on our faces.

Who influenced your athletic career at Lipscomb?

Kevin Burk and Charles Morrow – I remember watching their kids and working at their camps on weekends and in the summer.  They took me in my senior year when things weren't going well.

I trained for my first marathon with Kevin's wife Laura.  We would meet every morning at 7:30 to run together.  I don't believe our athletic career ever ends – after that marathon I continued running and have since finished a 100-miler.

Who were your favorite professors and why?

Dr. Kent Johnson – he made the classes interactive and kept you on your toes rather than starting at a power point.

Where did you grow up?

White Bear Lake, Minnesota.

Where do you live, and what do you do now?

I live in Genesee, Colorado and work for a start-up medical device company called ZAP Surgical.  We manufacture a machine that delivers radiation for cancer patients and those suffering from functional diseases.

Tell us about your family:

I met my husband Justin in Denver and we ended up eloping in the mountains.  He works in the oil and gas industry and continually tries to teach me how to golf since he played for his college in Oklahoma.

Together, we have our 3-year-old daughter, Torvi.  My favorite time spent is with her snowboarding in the mountains and watching her participate in different sports.
