NASHVILLE, TN - The Bisons battled again today against the Catamounts and Boilermakers for the Purple and Gold Challenge at Draper Diamond. Despite early effort pushes, the Bisons fell in both of Saturday's games.
Against Western Carolina
Despite a late push, the Bisons fell 5-3 to Western Carolina on Saturday afternoon in Nashville.
Lipscomb struck first in the second inning when MK Hickey doubled to left center and later scored on Ella Polk RBI ground out to give the Bisons a 1-0 lead. After Western Carolina evened the score in the fourth, the Bisons answered in the fifth. Chapel Cunningham singled up the middle and came around to score on an RBI walk from Brenna Sherman, putting Lipscomb back in front, 2-1.
Western Carolina used a four-run sixth to take control, but Lipscomb continued to battle in the home half of the inning. Kyla Jobe sparked the rally with a double down the left field line and stole third before scoring on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 5-3. Chapel Cunningham added her third hit of the day in the frame.
Cunningham led the Bisons offensively, going 3-for-4, while Hickey finished 1-for-4 with a run scored and Jobe added a double and a run. In the circle, Elizabeth Martin tossed 5.2 innings before Macey Ogle closed out the final 1.1 innings in relief.
Against Purdue
Lipscomb battled early but fell to Purdue, 12-2, on Saturday in Nashville. The Bisons answered Purdue's two-run first with two of their own in the bottom half of the inning, capitalizing on pressure and aggressive base running to tie the game at 2-2.
B. Sherman led the offense with a pair of hits, while J. Heuberger and Mal. Ogle each added singles to keep innings alive. On the mound, B. Beam struck out a batter in his outing before Mac. Ogle and E. Martin combined for 2.2 innings of relief work to close the contest.
Despite the final score, Lipscomb showed resilience in the opening frame and continued to compete throughout the game, highlighted by timely contact and defensive efforts across the field.
