
VOLLEYBALL SWEEPS THE UNA LIONS TO EARN SENIOR NIGHT VICTORY

NASHVILLE – Lipscomb volleyball earned their eighth sweep of the season and second straight sweep on Friday night in Allen Arena as they celebrated senior night against the UNA Lions. The victory put the Bisons at 13-12 overall and 10-5 in conference play.
The Bisons hit .274 for the match with 11 kills from Addi Pelham, 8 from Garrett Joiner, and 7 each from Meg Mersman and Logan Gish. On the defensive end, Gish put up a team high 12 digs, closely followed by sophomore Delaney Smith with 10, while Delaney Dilfer and senior Alex Spencer scooped up 8 digs apiece. Dilfer also put up a team high 3 service aces and 32 assists.
The Lions took six of the first eight points going in to the first set before the Bisons took five straight points to make the score 7-6. The one-point separation grew to a nine-point differential as the Bisons went on an 11-2 run as Pelham put down three straight kills. A late flurry of kills pushed the Bisons to 24-13, the squad secured the first set on a Lions' service error.
The Bisons hit .435 for the set, led by Pelham as she totaled five kills to hit .571, while Mersman and Joiner each hit .500.
After trading blows for the first points of set two, Bisons seniors Garret Joiner and Logan Gish together racked up five kills in a 3-1 run to push the score to 8-5. Mersman led the charge through the middle of the second set as she put down three kills over six points to push the Bisons to a 19-16 lead.
The Bisons and Lions traded points in a tense battle at the end of the set before a kill by Logan Gish, a solo block by Garrett Joiner, and a ball handling error from the Lions secured the Bisons' second set victory.
Gish and Joiner lead the offense by putting down four kills apiece, while Dilfer assisted on 14-of-16 team kills.
The third set saw Dilfer record her second kill of the match and two straight service aces to put the Bisons up 4-2. After a short flurry of points by both teams, the Bisons posted an 11-6 run wherein freshman Anna Aubele earned two kills and a block assist.
However, it was senior Logan Gish who ensured the Bisons' senior night victory as she put down the final kill of the match to post a third set score of 25-18.
The Bisons defense outworked their opponent in set three as they out-dug the Lions 18-16, out-blocked them 4-1, and out-served them with 5-2 service aces for the set, with Dilfer responsible for three of them.
