HOW IT HAPPENED
After the Hatters scored the first two points and led 3-1, the Bisons moved in front behind kills from Sydney Strenger and Ella Durham, with Durham adding another kill before combining on a block sequence that gave the Bisons a 6-4 edge. Brooklyn Fuchs and Anna Claire Brown helped keep the Bisons ahead through the middle of the set, but Stetson pulled even at 15-15 after a kill by Sofia Torcello and a Bisons attack error.Â
The Bisons answered with a Stetson attack error and a Madyson McCarthy kill to go back up 17-15, then stretched the margin to 21-17 on kills from Strenger and Durham. Stetson closed within 23-20 late, but Fuchs delivered a kill for set point and Brown finished the set with a kill to give the Bisons a 25-21 win.
In set two, after Stetson pulled even at 3-3, the Bisons moved in front 7-3 with help from a McCarthy kill, a Durham kill and two Stetson attack errors. With Kelsey Schenck serving, the Bisons stretched a 9-5 lead to 13-5 as Durham put down three kills and Schenck added an ace.
Stetson trimmed the margin to 16-12 on Vitoria Stedile's ace, but Strenger answered with a kill and the Bisons kept control through the middle of the set. Durham and Brown helped push the lead to 22-14, and after Charlotte Routh and Brown added late kills, Durham closed the set with an ace for a 25-15 Bisons win.
The third set stayed tight early, with the Bisons getting kills from Durham and Fuchs plus aces from Grace Jones and Strenger as the teams moved through ties at 6-6, 8-8 and 11-11. Durham added a kill to tie it at 12-12 and an ace for a 13-12 edge, and the Bisons later used kills from Brown, Strenger and Durham to stay in front before Stetson pulled even at 20-20.Â
Stetson moved ahead 21-20 on a Karsu Bayraktar kill, but Brown answered with a kill to tie the set before a Stetson attack error, with McCarthy and Strenger on the block, put the Bisons up 22-21. Brown followed with another kill, and Jones served consecutive aces to close out the Bisons' 25-21 set win.
