LADY BISONS OVERCOME DEFICIT, DEFEAT NORTH FLORIDA 74-70

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Lipscomb women's basketball (10-8) overcame a 15-point second half deficit to secure its first road victory of the season with a 74-70 win over North Florida (11-8) at UNF Arena. Jalyn Holcomb had a monster day with 21 points, including five three-pointers. Dorie Harrison also added a double-double on the afternoon with 17 points and 11 rebounds.

Jordan Peete and Jane Deason also poured in double-digit scoring performances, combining for 25 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

North Florida came out of the gate hot taking an early 5-2 lead, but Holcomb tied things up with a triple from the corner.

The Lady Bisons continued to gain momentum throughout the quarter, partly thanks to Holcomb catching fire from range. Two more three-pointers from Holcomb led Lipscomb on an 8-2 run to end the first quarter with a 17-12 lead.

The second quarter got off to a quiet start on both sides with no points scored for more than four minutes. The sides then traded buckets and knotted things up 20-20 at the second quarter media timeout.

North Florida began to heat up, scoring 14 points in the final minutes of the first half to take a 34-25 lead into the break.

A 6-0 run by the Ospreys to start the third quarter gave North Florida a commanding 40-25 lead. Just when things were looking bleak for the Bisons, Jordan Peete drained a triple and sparked a 14-5 run. The energy was infectious as Harrison converted an and-one opportunity and Deason netted a three-pointer of her own to cut the North Florida lead to four.

Lipscomb continued to chip away at the Ospreys lead and ultimately tied things 50-50 to end the third quarter.

Lipscomb picked up right where they left up to start the final frame with a 5-0 run to retake the 55-50 lead. The squads continued to trade buckets throughout the quarter and North Florida would pull within two (63-61) with one-minute left in regulation.

The Bisons never panicked and Holcomb drained her fifth three-pointer of the game with 42 seconds left to increase the lead 66-61.

After two made Lipscomb free throws, the Ospreys had more to say and drained a triple of their own to cut the lead 68-64 with 21 seconds left. Lipscomb, however, kept their cool and went 6-6 from the charity stripe down the stretch to secure the 74-70 victory.
