Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball falls 3-1 to Memphis

HOOVER, Ala. – The Lipscomb baseball team wrapped up play in Hoover Tuesday afternoon with its first defeat of the season, a 3-1 decision to Memphis at the Met.

The Bisons (2-1) got 13 strikeouts from their pitching staff, but struggled to get any rhythm on offense with only five hits.

Junior Noah Thompson got the ball for Lipscomb and stepped on the mound for the first time in 642 days. The junior looked sharp in only one inning pitched, punching out two of his three batters faced.

Memphis (1-0) scored all three of its runs in the fourth on a solo shot from Ben Brooks and then a 2-run homer by Alec Trela.

The Bisons were finally able to get something going in the fifth frame when Maddux Houghton led off with an infield single. Robbie Merced then reached on a bunt single, before an errant throw allowed both runners to move into scoring position. Chaz Bertolani grounded a ball to first base, allowing Houghton to plate for his third RBI of the season.

Lipscomb only managed two walks over the last four innings.

Dylan Bierman (0-1) suffered the loss in 2.0 innings of work. He gave up three runs on three hits with three strikeouts, two walks and two hit batters.
