Softball's Ashley Anderson Mitchell: Where Are They Now?

Ashley Anderson Mitchell finished her softball career at Lipscomb with a 20-8 record and 1.65 ERA in 2014 as a leader of a Lady Bisons team that went all the way to the finals of the NCAA Knoxville Regional finishing with a 41-15 record. Anderson was a Second Team All-ASUN selection as a senior and was also a member of the ASUN All-Academic Team.

What years did you compete for Lipscomb, and who coached you?

I played from 2010-2014. My head coach was Kristin Ryman, and the assistants were Lexi Myers, J.J. Dillingham, and Megan Rhodes Smith.

What teammates were most memorable, and why?

Our senior class was amazing. I was blessed with awesome teammates each year. A few that impacted me the most were Kristen Sturdivant, Haley Elliott, Rena Cothron, Bridgette Begle, Brianne Welch (who were all in my wedding) but also Bree Thurman and Kelsey Cartwright were huge too! Honestly, there are too many of them to pick from.

We are still close with each other even though we are all spread out geographically now. We formed a bond from the start of freshman year and pretty much all of my best college memories have them involved.

What degrees have you earned?

I earned a B.S in Exercise Science from Lipscomb University and Physical Therapist Assistant from Daymar College.

Why did you attend Lipscomb?

I was recruited to play softball but after visiting the school I saw the great Exercise Science program that Lipscomb offered, and the faith-based foundation was a big part of my choosing the school.

What is your favorite athletic memory at Lipscomb?

Getting a berth to regionals my senior year. We really all bonded senior year and worked so hard to get a berth after the conference tournament not going as planned. It was great. We ended up playing really well and I think we all felt good about how our last season ended.

Who influenced your athletic career at Lipscomb?

Coach Smith. She was only my coach for my senior year, but she left an impact on me that has lasted well beyond softball and graduation. She taught me to love the game again and really believe in my abilities both on and off the field.

What do you remember about Lipscomb campus life during your time here?

I remember going to support all the different sporting events and concerts that Lipscomb hosted.

What are the most valuable lessons you learned in your time at Lipscomb?

I learned a lot about growing as a person on and off the field and cherishing the good people that I spent so much time with during my four years at Lipscomb. I am grateful for the opportunity Lipscomb gave me to grow in my faith and serve in the community of Nashville while I was there.

Who were your favorite professors & why?

Dr. G (Kent Gallaher) from biology was a huge impact on my academic career. I only had one freshman biology class with him, but he was always there to chat and showed up at our games to support. Again, the Exercise Science department rocked.

Where did you grow up?

Newnan, Georgia.

Where do you live, and what do you do now?

We lived in Nashville for a while after graduating but have moved back to Newnan to be closer to both sides of our family. I am a Physical Therapist Assistant and Pilates instructor at ProHelath Physical Therapy and Pilates studio in Peachtree City, Georgia.

Tell us about your family.

My husband is Ryan Mitchell. We have a 2-year-old son named McGuire and will be welcoming our second son the beginning of March!
