Box Score NASHVILLE – Lipscomb Baseball dropped a 4-3 decision to Appalachian State Sunday afternoon at Ken Dugan Field despite a late ninth inning rally. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• The first three innings were scoreless. Lipscomb starter, Patrick Williams, allowed just two hits and struck out three in the first three innings. 
• App State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth. 
• The Mountaineer's lead increased to 2-0 in the fifth inning when the leadoff man came around and scored. 
• Lipscomb had a great chance to cut into the lead in the bottom of the seventh when Maddux Houghton crushed a one-out triple, but he was stranded at third. 
• The Bisons once again had a good chance with runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the eighth but were unable to plate either. 
• App State continued to hit the ball well and increased its lead 4-0 on a two-out RBI single in the top of the ninth. 
• Lipscomb mounted a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth. David Graves lead off the inning with a single which was followed by a single by Maddux Houghton. A Tiger Borom single and Malik Williams double scored three runs and put the tying run at the plate, but the rally came up just short. 

 
HERD NOTES

• Williams and Houghton both notched two hits on the night and combined for two RBI. 
• Chris Bashlor, Ethan Stamps and David Graves also notched hits on the night. 
• Lipscomb outhit the Mountaineers 8-7. 
• Each team had three errors on the afternoon.

Lipscomb will be back at Ken Dugan Field Wednesday, April 21 for a midweek tilt against rival Belmont. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. CT.
