Women's Tennis' Vika Dzyuba: Where Are They Now?

Vika Dzyuba is one of the most honored players in the history of Lipscomb women's tennis. She was a two-time ASUN Player of the Year in 2017 and 2019, a three-time All-ASUN Team unanimous selection from 2017-19. In 2018 and 2019 she was also an ASUN Academic All-Conference pick. Vika spent some time this week reflecting on her experiences at Lipscomb University.

What years did you compete for Lipscomb, and who coached you?

I played from 2016 to 2019, and my coach was Jamie Aid.

What teammates were most memorable?

The most memorable teammates were Maddie Brooks, Denise Buberl, Thabi Tshatedi, Maddox Bandy and Kate Popova.

I think the reason why they are the most memorable teammates is because we shared all the ups and downs, were there for each other no matter what and just had an unbelievable chemistry on and off the court.

We loved hitting each other on the court because coach Jamie would get us M&Ms for, we all shared pure hate for Subway and we loved hanging out off the court as well, ha ha. Little things like that made us super close in college, and I am still in a really good relationship with all the girls and consider my family.

What degree have you earned, from where, and when?

I earned my Finance degree with concentration in Investments from Lipscomb's College of Business in 2019.

Why did you attend Lipscomb?

My friend told me about how amazing Lipscomb is, and people she met there and after speaking with coach Aid, I realized Lipscomb would be a great fit for me academically and athletically.

What is your favorite athletic memory at Lipscomb?

I cannot condense it down it to only one memory so I will pick my two favorites.

One was traveling to tournaments like Oracle/All-American/ and Milwaukee Tennis Classic which are all national tournaments and having an opportunity to compete and represent Lipscomb on such high level.

Another favorite memory is beating FGCU for the first time in the program's history on our Senior Day. The energy, the fight and the excitement we had that day was just unbelievable and it was the best way to finish our home matches and go undefeated at home.

Who influenced your athletic career at Lipscomb?

Coach Jamie Aid influenced my athletic career the most. She pushed me on the court, and she believed in me in every match, even though I had attitude sometimes. She would leave my court and never come back, but she knew I would fight till the end. She introduced me to tennis at the national level which had a big impact on me as a person. I will be forever grateful for what she has done for me.

What do you remember about Lipscomb campus life during your time here?

All the games my team and I went to and how fun it was to support other athletes. But also, breakfasts and dinners at the caf (dining center) because we would spend hours there by just sitting and talking with other people.

Who were your favorite professors and why?

My favorite professors were Julio Rivas and Joe Ivey. Both of them had such an impact on my academic growth at Lipscomb and they also had valuable lessons for life after college which helped me after graduation. Their classes were exciting and educational, and I learned a lot from them.

Where did you grow up?

I grew up in Kharkiv, Ukraine and spent 16 years there before moving to America for college.

Where do you live, and what do you do now?

I live in Nashville with my mom and my sister, and I currently work for UBS as a Foreign Exchange and Money Market Analyst. I am also a Volunteer Assistant Coach for Lipscomb Women's Tennis.
