THE SHORT STORY: Despite outshooting and outrebounding Jacksonville, Lipscomb was unable to overcome a costly third quarter and fell 58-51 to the Dolphins at Swisher Gymnasium Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

FIRST QUARTER

Jacksonville jumped out to an early 12-2 lead in front of its home crowd over the first five minutes of the first quarter. The Dolphins were effective with its full court press and forced several Lipscomb turnovers in the opening minutes of the game.

Blythe Pearson broke up a 9-0 Jacksonville run with a three to spark the Bisons' offense.

The deep shooting was contagious as Sydney Shelton drained another triple to put Lipscomb within a pair of baskets.

Shelton's triple sparked an 8-4 Lipscomb run to close out the quarter with the Bisons trailing just 18-15.

SECOND QUARTER

The squads traded buckets in the first minutes of the second frame, but the Bisons began to steadily chip away at the Jacksonville lead and pulled back within three with over a minute and a half to go when Casey Collier found Jalyn Holcomb for an easy bucket.

Lipscomb took its first lead of the night when Bella Vinson connected on a triple from the left side for a 30-29 advantage.

The Bisons ended the half on a 10-5 run to stay within a point, 31-30 at the halftime break.

THIRD QUARTER

Lipscomb struggled coming out of halftime and Jacksonville capitalized to stretch its lead. Over the first five minutes of the quarter, the Dolphins used a 12-4 run to jump back out to a 43-34 lead.

Vinson was able to give Lipscomb life with a drive to the bucket that snapped a four-minute Bisons scoring drought.

The Dolphins outscored Lipscomb 14-6 in the third quarter, but Lipscomb still took a manageable nine-point deficit into the final frame.

FOURTH QUARTER

With the help of a 5-2 run, Jacksovnille gave itself a 12-point lead, its largest of the afternoon with just under six minutes to go in the game. Lipscomb then knocked down back-to-back buckets to get back within single-digits with 5:27 left in the game.

Maddie Cook continued to push the offense for Lipscomb with a third-straight Bisons basket to continue to shave the Jacksonville lead 50-44.

Lipscomb continued its 8-2 run with Blythe Pearson knocking down a pair of free throws, inching closer, 50-46, with two minutes left in the game.

The Bisons were unable to get over the hump and Jacksonville was clutch from the line down the stretch as Lipscomb fell 58-51.

HERD NOTES
