SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Lipscomb Men's Golf notched a third-straight team podium finish at The Carolina Cup this weekend with a second-place finish. The Bisons finished the tournament at (-10) behind UAB who finished at a (-20), setting a tournament record.
Jason Hong led the way for the Bisons with a third place finish out of a field of 90 competitors. Hong shot a 72 in the first round but improved by shooting a 66 and 69 in the second and third rounds, respectively. The Lidcombe, Australia native finished at a (-9) for the podium finish and finished just three strokes behind the tournament champion who set a tournament record. Hong averaged 3.77 (-7) on Par 4s and had 16 birdies during the tournament, the second-most of any competitor.
Lipscomb had another big performance by
Will Holan who tied for fifth place overall. He finished at (-4) after carding a 70-69-73 on the tournament. The senior had 14 birdies and one eagle.
Gregor McKenzie tied for 13
th overall. He shot an impressive 67 in the first round but lost a little steam in the final two rounds shooting 75-74 to finish even. McKenzie was impressive on Par 3s, averaging 2.92 on those holes, tied for the top of the field.
Lipscomb had another top-20 finisher in
Jack Morris, who competed as an individual. He tied for 20
th at (+3), shooting a 69 in the first round and carding a 75 in both the second and third rounds of play. The Franklin native had two eagles during the tournament, tied for the most during the three rounds.
Ford Goldasich posted a 79-72-71 to tie for 34
th (+6) while
Austin Aliff (76-78-75) finished tied for 55
th (+13) over the three rounds.
HERD NOTES
- Lipscomb finished with 63 birdies, the most of any team in the field.
- The Bisons notched 149 total pars on the tournament and one eagle.
- The squad has nine top-10 individual finishes this season through four events and six top-3's.
