Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bisons drain 16 three-pointers in win over Eastern Kentucky

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Lipscomb men's basketball team found its stroke from deep Saturday afternoon as the Bisons drained a season high 16 three-pointers en route to defeating Eastern Kentucky 83-73 inside Allen Arena in ASUN Conference action.

The win improved the Bisons to 11-16 overall and 4-8 in league play, while the Colonels dropped to 11-15 and a game behind Lipscomb in the division at 3-9.

Lipscomb got double-digit performances from three Bisons and Ahsan Asadullah reeled in his 10th double-double of the season.

The Bisons came out of the gate hot from behind the arc. Trae Benham got things going with a triple, which was followed by treys from Greg Jones and Will Pruitt for an early 9-5 lead.

The Eastern Kentucky three ball was also falling as they quickly connected on back-to-back threes, slowing the Lipscomb momentum to retake an 11-9 lead at the first media timeout.

Lipscomb's offense continued to be electric with triples from Tommy Murr and KJ Johnson to push the Bisons back out to a 17-14 lead. The furious pace continued as the teams traded buckets and the lead for the next several minutes.

Lipscomb finally got some separation after an 8-0 run pushed the Bisons out to a 25-18 lead with 8:59 left in the half, capped off by a thunderous Parker Hazan Dunk.

The Colonels finally stopped the bleeding with a triple, but Lipscomb continued to convert on the offensive end and took a 27-21 lead into the under eight media timeout.

The Eastern Kentucky long ball kept the Colonels close, shaving the Lipscomb lead down to one point, but Tanner Shulman drained a deep ball on the Bisons' end for a 31-27 lead.

Eastern Kentucky locked down on the offensive end and used its seventh three pointer to take a 32-31 lead, but the Colonels' lead was short lived as Hazan drained a 3-pointer on the next trip down the floor to retake the lead. After a defensive stop, Murr drove to the basket and laid one in giving Lipscomb a four-point cushion at the final media timeout of the half.

Lipscomb went on to outscore EKU 7-5 in the final three minutes to take a 43-37 lead into the halftime break.

Hazen kept the offense flowing early in the second half after a pair of buckets helped push the lead to double-digits. After making just one long ball in the first 20 minutes, Greg Jones started heating up after halftime. The senior buried consecutive shots from beyond the arc to fall, before Murr followed him up with a pair to make it four threes in a row for the Bisons, giving them a 60-47 lead eight minutes into the half.

The Colonels began cutting into the Bisons advantage with an 11-3 run before eventually getting it to a one-possession game at the 8:14 mark.

But Jones responded with yet another trey, and another, and another to spark a 14-5 run and push Lipscomb's lead back out to 12 with 2:44 remaining.

The purple and gold sealed the game down the stretch with another Hazen hammer and a free throw from Will Pruitt to get an important 83-73 win.
