Stetson Breaks Women's Basketball Home ASUN Winning Streak

Final Score:   Stetson: 60, Lipscomb: 48
Location:  Nashville, Tenn. (Allen Arena)
Records:  Lipscomb: 8-13, 3-5 ASUN, Stetson 12-10, 5-4 ASUN

THE SHORT STORY: Jalyn Holcomb turned in a season-high effort and the Bisons connected on nine 3-pointers, but getting outscored by 17 points across the second and third quarters proved to be too much for Lipscomb to overcome as the Hatters came to Nashville and walked away with a 61-50 victory over the purple and gold.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Bisons found themselves on the short end even before tipoff as Stetson was awarded a technical free throw following an equipment malfunction.

Maddie Cook nailed a jumper at the 8:32 mark of the first quarter to get Lipscomb on the board, but over the next four minutes it would be all Hatters. With the Bisons trailing 9-2, Jalyn Holcomb nailed a corner three to halt a 4:17 drought for the purple and gold.

Jordan Peete and Sydney Shelton followed Holcomb's lead as each connected from long distance to put get the Bisons to within a single point. They took their first lead on a pair of Diana Saleh free throws to lead 13-12 after the opening frame.

Lipscomb closed the quarter on an 8-0 run and held Stetson scoreless over the final 3:55 while forcing four turnovers. They shot 44.4 percent from the floor and limited the Hatters to just 4-of-15 shooting.

Saleh carried the momentum over into the second period with a layup 30 seconds in to give the home team a 15-12 advantage. From that point on, however, the Bisons went ice cold, missing their next eight shot attempts.

Almost eight minutes later, Holcomb drove the lane and finished a reverse layup before drilling another 3-pointer in the final minute to send the Bisons into the half down 23-20. Lipscomb shot 23.1 percent in the period on 3-of-13 field goals, while also holding the Hatters to just a 28.6-percent clip.

Holcomb got the second half underway with her seventh-straight point after converting on a second-chance possession. The Hatters responded with six consecutive points to extend their lead to seven before Peete buried her second triple to get it back to within four.

That would be all the scoring the Bisons would muster until the final seconds of the third period as the Hatters closed the stanza on 14-0 run before a layup from Bella Vinson at the buzzer. Stetson took a 43-27 advantage into the fourth quarter after shooting 57 percent in the frame.

Lipscomb struggled again shooting the ball, hitting only 3-of-15 attempts (20%).

Vinson and Holcomb started cooking offensively for the Bisons in the fourth quarter as the duo connected on four straight trips down the floor. After a bucket from Vinson, Holcomb buried her third and fourth 3-pointers of the night to bring Lipscomb back to within seven at 47-40 with 6:36 to play.

A couple minutes later, Peete hit another triple to make it a 5-point game, but the Hatters could not miss. They used a 6-2 run over 3:14 to push their lead back to nine.
Stetson used free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
