Final Score: #5E North Florida 60, #4W Lipscomb 42
Location: Nashville, Tenn. (Allen Arena)
Records: Lipscomb: 10-20 (5-11 ASUN), North Florida: 13-16 (8-5 ASUN)
THE SHORT STORY: Jalyn Holcomb was hot from the floor, pouring in a season high 21 points, but Lipscomb women's basketball couldn't get production from anyone else as the Bisons dropped a 60-42 decision to North Florida in the first round of the ASUN Championship Wednesday night in Allen Arena.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The first quarter was all North Florida as the Ospreys forced five Lipscomb turnovers and held the Bisons to just three buckets (3-of-14).
UNF led 16-8 at the end of the frame, but without the heroics of Jalyn Holcomb, the purple and gold would not have been as close. She scored all eight points on 3-of-4 field goals and grabbed five rebounds.
The second quarter was just as ugly, but for both sides as they each shot just 20 percent over the 10 minutes. Lipscomb was 3-of-15, while UNF was 2-of-10.
Bella Vinson got the period started with a 3-pointer before Holcomb added a second-chance bucket to get to within one possession. A few minutes later, Holcomb buried a 3-pointer of her own to bring the Bisons to within 20-17 with 2:22 left in the half, but the Ospreys ended the quarter with four free throws to take a 24-17 lead into the break.
Holcomb scored 13 of the team's 17 points in the half and grabbed 10 rebounds for the first double-double of her career.
In the third period, the Bisons came out with a better pace. After Dorie Harrison hit a pair of free throws, Holcomb and Sydney Shelton connected on back-to-back triples to make it a one-point game.
From there, however, the Ospreys stretched their advantage with an 8-0 run over the next 2:30 minutes to get back in front by 10.
Holcomb drained another three, giving her 21 points at the end of the third period, to cut UNF's lead to 41-34 entering the fourth period.
The Ospreys put the Bisons to bed with a 15-0 run to start the fourth quarter and that was all she wrote as a 3-for-17 period from the field wasn't good enough to mount a comeback.
