Schwind Punches Ticket to NCAA Track & Field Outdoor Championship

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Lipscomb's Jonathan Schwind, Jonathan Imes, Kiara Carter, and Bella Jackson competed at the NCAA East Preliminary rounds over the weekend in Bloomington. Schwind and Carter competed in the men's and women's 800m respectively, while Imes ran in the 400m dash and Jackson competed in the high jump.
 
Schwind competed in the first round of the 800m run on Wednesday, May 25th where he posted a time of 1:49.26 in the 800m to win his heat and send him through to Friday's quarterfinal rounds. Then, Schwind logged a 1:49.04 to punch his ticket for the second year in a row to the 800m semifinals at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Eugene, Or.
 


Imes also competed on Wednesday as he represented the Bisons in the first round of the men's 400m dash. He posted his second-best time of the season with a 46.65 to move on to the quarterfinals on Friday where he finished 21st in the quarterfinal round of the 400m dash with a time of 46.95, eclipsing his time of 46.98 that earned him the 2nd at the ASUN Outdoor Championships.
 


This meet marked the first time Carter or Jackson have competed in the NCAA East Preliminaries. Carter competed in the first round of the women's 800m run on Thursday, May 26th in heat six. She finished 5th in her heat with her time of 2:06.25 to finish 28th overall.
 


Freshman Bella Jackson earned her trip to compete at the NCAA East Preliminaries following her dominating jump of 1.79m at the ASUN Outdoor Championship that earned her the conference champion title. On Saturday, May 28th, Jackson competed in the women's high jump where she logged a 1.76m (5' 9.25") to tie with Amaya Ugarte of Ohio State for 19th overall after four rounds.
 


Schwind will make the trip to Oregon to compete in the semifinals of the 800m run at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships June 8th at 8:14pm CT.
