THE SHORT STORY

HOW IT HAPPENED
Ike Buxton got his 12
th start of the season and got off to a quick start, retiring the Knights in order with two strikeouts in the top of the first.
Lipscomb jumped on the Knights early, surging out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning. A leadoff base hit from Ketchup scored when
Malik Williams singled through the right side for a 1-0 lead. Back-to-back home runs ballooned the lead after a three-run shot from
Rudy Maxwell and a solo long ball from
Trace Willhoite for the 5-0 advantage after the first frame.
After a scoreless second inning, Bellarmine cut into the lead with three runs in the top of the third making Lipscomb's lead 5-3. Lipscomb responded in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff home run. Williams' 10
thhome run of the season gave the Bisons a 6-3 lead. Maxwell stayed hot with a double and eventually scored on a ground ball to put Lipscomb back out to a four-run lead.
The Knights loaded the bases in the fourth frame and cashed in with a base knock for a 7-4 game and threatened to put more runs on the board, the Bisons turned an impressive double play to get out of the inning with little damage.
Noah Thompson entered in relief in the top of the fifth and retired eight of the next nine men that he saw to keep Bellarmine at bay in the next three innings. The Knights, however, scored four runs on four hits in the top of the eighth to take an 8-7 lead, Bellarmine's first lead of the series.
The Bisons tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth, getting the tying and go-ahead runs on base with a pair of walks, but were unable to get either across home plate as it ultimately fell 8-7.
