Bison trio brings home ASUN Softballl postseason awards

NASHVILLE –  Lipscomb softball's Amy Vetula and Maci Cunconan were honored by the ASUN Conference on Monday when the league announced its postseason honors.

Vetula landed a spot on the ASUN second team for the second-straight season, while Cunconan gives the Bisons a player on the All-Academic team for the 10th-consecutive season.

Vetula has been Lipscomb's table setter and one of the best defensive shortstops in the league. She ranks sixth in the ASUN in batting average (.373), seventh in on-base percentage (.451) and sports a .449 slugging percentage.

Her 59 hits are 3rd-most in the league, while her 39 runs scored are seventh. The Canton, Georgia native also leads the team in walks (22) and stolen bases (9).

In ASUN play, Vetula's averages go up where she batted .410 with a .452 OBP and a .487 slugging after collecting a league high 32 hits and six doubles. She also has two triples on the year and 15 RBI.

She leads the team with 21 multiple-hit games, including 12 against ASUN opposition. Defensively, she is fourth in the ASUN with 102 assists, while recording 81 putouts and four double plays.

Cunconan earned a spot on the All-Academic team with a 4.0 GPA while majoring in Public Relations.

One of only two Bisons to start all 51 games this season, Cunconan leads the team in slugging percentage (.540), home runs (7), RBI (33) and total bases (81).

She also leads the nation with eight triples, five more than any other ASUN player.

Cunconan ranks third on the squad in hits (38), runs scored (22), doubles (6) and has three stolen bases. She has nine games this season with multi-hits and eight with multi-RBI. Of her 38 hits on the year, 21 has gone for extra bases.

After starting the season in left field, she made the transition to center and solidified the Bisons outfield, resulting in a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage in 72 chances with five assists.

Despite the fact that she was supposed to be graduating high school this month, Peters grew and continued to get better with each start throughout the season in the circle.

She led the team with 11 wins and her 3.60 ERA was second-best.. She started 15 games and made appearances in 29, working her way to an 11-8 mark across 103.0 innings.

She posted six complete games and punched out 40 batters en route to a .268 batting average against. The Dickson native held opponents to 1 or fewer runs in 17 outings, including in six of her last eight to end the regular season.

Peters struck out a season high five batters against Bellarmine and recorded a season high 8.0 innings pitched on the road at Central Arkansas, where she allowed just 1 run.

Lipscomb will begin its quest for the ASUN crown at 2 p.m. CT on Tuesday with a play-in game against No. 5 Jacksonville State. The winner advances to play No. 4 North Alabama on Wednesday, while the loser goes home.

A win Tuesday would get the Bisons into the double-elimination portion of the championship format.
