
Volleyball falls on the road at No. 23 Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Lipscomb volleyball opened the Jayhawk Classic with a 3-0 (19-25, 16-25, 23-25) defeat against No. 23 Kansas Thursday night in the Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena.
Freshman Jada DiVita led the Bisons with 10 kills, while hometown product Addi Pelham added nine kills and four blocks.
Sophia Hudepohl was credited with 30 assists and nine digs, while Delaney Smith scooped up a team-high 10 digs.

- Lipscomb swung .321 in the frame with 13 kills and four errors, but seven service miscues kept the Jayhawks in front.
- The Bisons trailed by four early on, but kills from freshmen DiVita and Mischler led a purple and gold run to make it a 9-8 KU lead.
- The Jayhawks extended their advantage to 22-15 and held off the Bisons.
- Mischler, DiVita and Courtney Jones powered the team with three kills each in the set.

- After falling behind out of the gate, Pelham landed a kill to jumpstart Lipscomb's attack in the second frame.
- The sides traded blows to an 11-9 Kansas lead before the Jayhawks reeled off a 14-7 run to go up 2-0 in the match.
- The Bisons limited KU to just .176 hitting with nine kills on 34 attacks.
- DiVita led the team with three kills.
- Mersman and Pelham each had two blocks.

- The third frame was the closest of the night with six ties and five lead changes.
- Smith landed an ace to give Lipscomb a 3-0 lead out of the gate.
- The Bisons held that advantage until Kansas went in front 8-7 after a block.
- Lipscomb and Kansas traded blow after blow with neither side leading by more than two points until late in the set.
- Kansas led 24-19, before the Bisons got kills from DiVita and Pelham to make it a 24-23 game, forcing a Jayhawks timeout. KU got the match point after a service error from the Bisons.
- Pelham registered six kills in the frame, while DiVita added four.
- Kansas outhit Lipscomb .200 to .179.

- Kansas outhit the BIsons .236 to .101, but managed just 30 kills to Lipscomb's 35.
- The Bisons were charged with a season high 18 service errors, while adding five aces.
- The Jayhawks totaled 14 blocks compared to four for the Bisons.
- Meg Mersman hit .357 with six kills and three blocks.
- Berkley Mischler led the team with a .444 hitting percentage (4k, 0e, 9ta).
