
Volleyball falls in four to Oklahoma to wrap up LUV Invite

NASHVILLE – Lipscomb volleyball concluded its annual LUV Invite Saturday night with a 3-1 loss to Oklahoma by scores of 25-17, 25-11, 17-15 and 25-20.
Freshman Jada DiVita led the Bisons with nine kills, while Addie Pelham and Courtney Jones each added eight with a .300 attacking percentage.
Freshman Sophia Hudepohl set a career high with 36 assists and missed a double-double by one with nine digs. Junior libero Delaney Smith led the purple and gold with 18 digs and four service aces. Meg Mersman picked up seven kills and a team-high five blocks.
Oklahoma outhit Lipscomb .275 to .135 on the night.

Lipscomb will hit the road for Louisville, Kentucky next weekend for the Louisville Invitational. The Bisons will play Xavier at 2 p.m. Friday before earning a matchup with either No. 3 Louisville or No. 11 Purdue on Saturday.

- Lipscomb was hot out of the gate, taking a 5-1 run behind three kills from three players, an ace from Smith and a solo block from Mersman.
- After working to an 8-8 tie, the Sooners reeled off an 8-1 run to take a 16-9 lead. The sides traded points until OU closed the opening-set win with a 4-1 spurt.
- Lipscomb got outhit .550 to .065 and committed 13 total errors (nine attacking, four service).
- Caroline Stogner had three kills, while Hudeophl picked up 10 of the team's 11 assists in the set.

Set 2
- Oklahoma carried its Uncle Mo into the second frame and the Bisons could never recover.
- The Sooners led 12-3 and then ended the set on a 9-4 run to get the victory and go in front 2-0.
- OU outhit the Bisons .423 to .077 and held them to just seven kills.

Set 3
- Lipscomb opened up once again with a 5-1 run behind a kill and two blocks from Mersman, a kill from Berkley Mischer and another Smith ace.
- The Sooners responded with a 7-0 run to take the lead.
- A few points later, Lipscomb got kills from five different Bisons and a pair of aces to reel off a 12-4 run and grab a 19-14 advantage.
- Mersman and DiVita landed back-to-back swings before the latter sealed the set win for the Bisons, 25-17.
- Lipscomb outhit the Sooners .303 to .062 and held them to just eight kills and six errors.
- Jones, Mersman and DiVita paced the team with three kills and all three hit over .429 in the set.
- Hudepohl assisted on 12 of the 14 kills and Smith dropped a pair of aces.

Set 4
- Neither team could gain more than a two-point advantage through the first half of the set until OU took advantage of two Lipscomb errors to take a 10-7 lead.
- Another 3-0 run later in the set helped extend their margin to 17-12.
- Pelham and Hudepohl pulled Lipscomb back to within a pair at 20-18 on a kill and a block, but the Sooners won the next three points and held the Bisons off.
- Lipscomb's biggest struggle came at the service line with six errors.
- Jones and DiVita each had three kills.
