HOW IT HAPPENED
From the opening whistle, Indiana was aggressive and had an early shot that went just wide in the 4' minute.
The Bisons were able to settle into the match and got some good things working in its attacking third. In the 9' minute, Lipscomb had a dangerous chance when
Javanne Smith forced an Indiana save when
Malachi Jones forced a turnover and whipped a cross into the box for a waiting Smith.
After much of the next minutes being played in the midfield,
Tyrese Spicer got a good touch that took him wide and put in a very dangerous cross in front of goal in the 20' minute, but the Hoosiers' keeper charged off his line and snatched the ball before the Bisons could get on the end of it.
The Bisons nearly got on the board in the 23' minute when Spicer curled a ball toward goal on a free kick just outside the box, but his shot went just wide and out for an Indiana goal kick.
Indiana got on the board in the 32' minute when a shot from outside the box skipped through the defense and just under the outstretched arms of
Harrison Gough for a 1-0 Indiana lead.
After halftime, Lipscomb was the aggressor and in the 48' minute, Smith put a cross in a very dangerous area at the top of the six-yard box, but nobody was there to get on the end of it.
Gough came up clutch for the Bisons in the 61' minute when an Indiana player blasted a shot that was destined for the top left corner. Gough, however, dove and reached across his body with his right hand and punched the ball over the crossbar, keeping Indiana from getting on the board again.
Indiana scored another in the 74' minute for a 2-0 advantage.
Lipscomb got one back late when Spicer scored in the 84' minute. On a free kick, the Indiana keeper punched the ball, but it was to the feet of Spicer who used his lethal left foot to send the ball to the upper net of the goal and cut the lead 2-1.
With two minutes left in the match, Lipscomb earned a corner kick and looked dangerous, but the resulting shot didn't have much on it and went wide. It proved to be Lipscomb's final chance of the match.
The Bisons ultimately fell 2-1 in the first round of the NCAA tournament to end its season 10-4-4 with its third-consecutive ASUN Championship Title.
