Track & Field Completes Commonwealth College Opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Lipscomb's Track & Field programs saw a strong beginning to their 2023-24 Indoor Track & Field Season as they competed at the Commonwealth College Opener on Saturday, hosted by the University of Louisville. The squad turned in a fantastic set of performances with ten top-10 finishes with five podium appearances resulting in four personal bests and a trio of indoor program records.
 
The Bisons cleaned up in the field events, with Aislinn McElhaney returning to competition with a first place finish in the women's long jump from a personal and program best distance of 6.18m (20' 3.5").
 
Gabriel Martin represented Lipscomb in the men's long jump and recorded a personal best jump of 6.94m (22' 9.25") to finish sixth overall in his first appearance in the Purple and Gold.
 
Bella Jackson earned a trip to the podium with a 1.75m (5' 8.75") effort in the high jump to finish third overall.
 
In the sprinting events, Aliyah Wilson put in a strong day's work, earning a personal best time of 7.84 in the 60m dash in the preliminary rounds of the event before recording a program record time of 41.18 in the 300m dash in her first time competing in the event for the Bisons.
 
Abigail Alvarado clocked a time of 57.00 in the 400m dash to earn first place, a personal best, and a program record. She, McElhaney, Kennedy Miller, and Aliyah Wilson combined for a third place finish in the women's 4x400m relay with a 3:52.05 in the event.
 
Saxon Brown and Nathan Wallace recorded the final top-5 finishes from the men's team as they earned second overall in the 600m run with a time of 1:22.45 and a fifth overall finish in the 500m run with a 1:09.15, respectively.
 
UP NEXT
The Bisons will return to action over Friday and Saturay, January 12-13th at the Commodore Challenge, hosted by local foe Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn.
