THE SHORT STORY

FGCU snapped Lipscomb Women's Basketball's four-game win streak as they buried 18 three-pointers on their home court on Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After drawing first blood with free throws in the first quarter, FGCU raced to an early 10-point lead due to a 12-0 run. The Eagles were lethal from outside, connected on four-three-pointers during the span.

FGCU continued to get shots to fall from deep, finishing with eight made threes in the fourth quarter.

The Bisons shot just 3-of-13 in the first quarter, while FGCU connected on 10-of-19 from the floor. FGCU held a 20-point advantage (28-8) at the end of the first quarter.

Lipscomb managed to get more shots to fall in the second quarter, starting with four-straight buckets inside by Molly Heard, which cut their deficit to 16 with eight minutes still to go in the second.

The Bisons then went on a 10-0 scoring run, led by Jalyn Holcomb, who hit two three-pointers to give the squad some momentum.

FGCU answered with an eight-point stretch of their own to push the lead back out to 16 to close the half. Holcomb led the Bisons through the first two frames with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting. Heard also put in six points off the bench.

Lipscomb shot 35.5% from the floor in the first half and committed 12 turnovers, resulting in 19 points for the Eagles. FGCU, one of the best three-point shooting teams in the country, let it fly from deep early and often in the first half, converting on 12 of their 29 attempts.

The Bisons kept pace with the Eagles for most of the quarter, with most teams shooting around 50% from the floor and trading baskets down the stretch. FGCU still maintained an 18-point advantage (63-45) entering the final period.

The Bisons continued to battle until the final whistle, trimming their deficit to as little as 14 in the fourth, but their efforts weren't enough to dig them out of their early hole, as they fell 78-61 to the first-place squad in the ASUN.
