THE SHORT STORY

Lipscomb women's basketball took the fight to the Governors and returned Thursday's favor with a decisive 65-50 win in Clarksville.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Lipscomb grabbed the early lead at 5-2 as Blythe Pearson recorded a layup and a three-pointer in back-to-back possessions.

Pearson's hot start set off the Bisons' momentum in the first as Aleah Sorrentino, Claira McGowan, and Jalyn Holcomb each recorded buckets inside to extend the Bisons' early lead to seven at 11-4.

The Governors hit their stride late in the first to recover to even the score (11-11) moving into the first break.

Once again, Austin Peay made a quick strike to take a short lead at the top of the second quarter, but quickly found themselves halted by a 9-2 run from Lipscomb to stand 20-15 just over the six-minute mark.

Sorrentino and McGowan made solid plays in the second with six points apiece to lead the Bisons' 17-7 run in the second frame. Ainhoa Ceah recorded her first bucket of the contest while Pearson recorded her second three to put the Bisons up by 10 after two quarters.

Bella Vinson got in on the action with a pair of threes to push the Bisons to a 38-24 lead. Following a pair of Sorrentino scores inside, Vinson put in a layup to extend Lipscomb's advantage to 14-point.

Holcomb brought the Bisons up by 16 with a pair of free throws as time ran low in the third quarter. The Governors responded with a layup but the Bisons carried their 14-point lead into the final frame.

Vinson continued her hot streak in the fourth with a six points to tie Sorrentino as the squad's leading scorer for the matchup early in the final quarter.

The Bisons continued to keep their foot on the gas as Jalyn Holcomb scooped a layup in to keep the Bisons firmly infront.

As the final minute ticked down, McGowan drew a slew of fouls and sunk five of her six attempts at the charity stripe to take the Bisons up 63-50. Vinson sealed Lipscomb's 19th victory of the season with a final pair of free throws to end the game with a 15-point lead at 65-50.
