
Cross Country Opens Season at Belmont Opener

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb's men's and women's cross country teams began their 2023 season Friday morning at the Belmont Opener hosted by the Belmont Bruins at the Vaughn's Gap Cross Country Gap in Percy Warner Park. The women's team earned sixth place at the meet and the men's team finished seventh with a slate of personal bests.
The women ran first at 9:15 a.m. CT on what turned out to be a warm September morning and claimed sixth place as a team with a total of 147 points in the meet. Sydney Liddle led the Bisons across the line with a tenth-place finish from a time of 18:29.3 in the 5K.
Grace McGuckin followed Liddle across the line with a time of 18:37.7 to finish 18th overall while Kaylee Wilson clocked a 19:37.6 to finish 42nd. Carly Miller and Juane' Klaus crossed the line right in step at 20:05.4 and 20:05.5 to finish 51st and 52nd respectively. Allena Klamorick rounded out the Herd's performance at 54th place with a time of 20:12.7
The men's team was up next at 10 a.m. and the squad earned seventh place with a total of 213 points. Connor Sarkovics led the Herd across the line with a 19th place finish in the 5K from a time of 15:46.9.
Bison freshmen Michael Polizzi and Gavin Bacus crossed the line next for the Herd in 65th (16:41.9) and 74th (16:50.7) respectively. Brian Risse clocked a 17:14.5 to finish 87th and Saxon Brown rounded out the Herd's performance with a 17:51.3 to finish 100th overall.
