
XC Women Claim Second Place, Men Third at Trevecca Michael Pretorius Invite

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Lipscomb cross country hit the course Saturday morning for their second meet of the 2023 season. The Bisons' women's team claimed second place with 38 points and the men brought home third place with 62 points behind Ben Butcher's first place finish.
After a brief delay for weather, the men ran first on the rainy Saturday morning. The Bisons got off to a hot pace and a pack of yellow jerseys led the race from start to finish.
Ben Butcher led the men's squad across the line with a 25:07.7, less than a second off his personal best of 25:06.5, to claim his first collegiate first place overall finish. James Schmidt and AJ Goecker earned top-10 finishes of their own as Schmidt logged a 25:31.04 to finish eighth and Goecker clocked a 25:37.91 to finish ninth.
Michael Polizzi and Gavin Bacus logged the Bisons' final points of the meet as they crossed the line 43rd and 47th respectively. Polizzi put up a 27:35.39 in the meet while Bacus ran a 27:49.21.
The women's squad ran next and the Bisons once again demonstrated their dominant presence on the course early, setting a quick pace from the get-go. The squad combined for 38 points behind Caroline Inman and her sixth-place finish (17:42.27).
Linday Ott and Sydney Liddle joined Inman in the top-10 with times of 17:50.20 and 18:26.89 to finish eighth and ninth respectively. Grace McGuckin and Kaylee Wilson rounded out the Bisons' scoring five with an 11th place finish for McGuckin (18:33.21) and a 26th place finish for Wilson (19:28.38).
