Baseball Drops Both Games of Doubleheader at No. 15 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Lipscomb baseball dropped both contests of their Saturday doubleheader against No. 15 Alabama.

The Bisons at one point had a 6-1 lead in game one but were unable to keep up with the Crimson Tides' offense, falling in game one 20-13.

Lipscomb struggled to score after scoring 13 runs on 14 hits in game one, recording just four hits in the 10-1 loss to Alabama in game two.

GAME ONE: LIPSCOMB: 13, No. 15 ALABAMA: 20

The Crimson Tide wasted no time getting on the board in game one, scoring on a solo shot in the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. Lipscomb was able to put runs on the board in the second and third innings on home runs. 

Trace Willhoite launched his fourth bomb of the year to even the score in the second, and then, with a runner on, Mason Lundgrin belted a big fly over the left field wall to take a 3-1 lead. 

Willhoite connected on his second home run of the day, this time with two runners on to push the beside to a 6-1 advantage in the fifth.

Disaster struck for the Bisons in the bottom half, as the Tide had seven runs on five hits to take an 8-6 lead. 

Lipscomb responded in their next at-bats, plating five runs on an RBI single from Jake Berg and two two-RBI singles, one from Parks Bouck and the other from Noah Boughton, to take back an 11-8 lead. 

Alabama then scored six runs on just two hits in the sixth to take a 15-11 lead. Lipscomb got two runs back in the eighth on a single from Austin Kelly, which brought home two, but the Crimson Tide had another big inning, adding five more runs to go up 20-13.

The Bisons put two runners on in the ninth and couldn't do anything with them, falling 20-13 in game two. 

POSTGAME NOTES

  • In game one, Mason Lundgrin and Trace Willhiote had four hits and four RBI performances.
  • Jake Berg went a perfect 3-of-3 in game one of the doubleheader. 
  • Adam Switalski went down for the loss for the Bisons on the hill, his first pitching decision of the year, while Alabama's Tyler Fay (1-0) earned the win, and Alton Davis II earned his third save of the year.
  • Alabama outhit the Lipscomb in game one, 14-12. 
  • The ball clubs combined to walk 20 batters in game one. 


GAME TWO: LIPSCOMB: 1, No. 15 ALABAMA: 10

No. 15 Alabama continued their trend of multi-run innings, putting a four spot on the board in the first inning. 

The Crimson Tide's starting pitcher held the Bisons in check during his time on the mound, tossing six strikeouts and only allowing three hits in the first five innings. 

Alabama added two runs in the third and fifth innings to take an 8-0 lead. Mason Lundgrin got the Bisons on the board in the sixth with a solo home run.

However, the Tide answered with a run in the seventh and eighth to win 10-1. 

POSTGAME NOTES

  • After logging 12 hits in game one, the Bisons knocked just four in game two.
  • Alabama combined to score 30 runs in two games with 27 total hits. 
  • Mason Lundgrin finished the doubleheader 6-of-7 at the plate with 5 RBI, ending with two hits and an RBI in game two.
