Offensive Explosion Propels Bisons Past North Florida

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Lipscomb baseball put up double-digit runs for the fourth straight conference game, hanging 21 runs on North Florida after scoring 16 in game one to take the series on Saturday and set up a sweep opportunity Sunday morning.

North Florida started the high-scoring affair with a two-spot in the first inning on an RBI single to center field and a sacrifice fly.

Lipscomb got both of those runs back and another to take the lead in the second inning on three RBI singles from the top three guys in the Bisons' order to take a 3-2 advantage.

In the third frame, Lipscomb extended their lead to three runs on a solo shot from David Coppedge, an RBI ground out by Jacob Tobias, and a throwing error by an Osprey infielder.

However, North Florida brought two runs home in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-5 edge, while holding Lipscomb scoreless in those frames.

With one swing of the bat in the sixth, Tobias connected on a grand slam, his first home run in a Lipscomb uniform, to give the Bisons back the lead.

After a solo home from North Florida made it a 9-7 game in the top half of the seventh, the Bisons added four more runs in the bottom half to break the game open.

The Bisons runs came on a fielding error, a bases-loaded walk, and an RBI single by Tobias, his seventh of the afternoon, to take a 13-7 lead.

Lipscomb would go on to add seven more runs on six hits, two of them home runs, to bring their total to 21 for the game.

They scored in each of the last four innings, including four or more in three those four, to claim a impressive 21-7 victory, securing the series and setting up a sweep opportunity Sunday in Jacksonville.

POSTGAME NOTES

  • The Bisons have scored double-digit runs in four straight conference games, the longest streak in the D-1 era.
  • Tobias ended the game with seven RBI, the most by a Bison this season and one shy of tying Lipscomb's D-1 record.
  • Every player in the Bisons' order reached base for the second straight outing.
  • Fours Bisons had three-hit outings in game two of the series.
  • Twenty-one runs are the most runs the Bisons have scored this season and the most since Coach Forehand and company hung 21 on Tennessee Tech in 2022. 21 is also one run shy of the program record of 22 runs set in 2016 against NJIT.
  • The Bisons are up to 9 home runs in the series, already the most of any three-game set this season, with one game still to go.
  • The Bisons improved to 11-22, 7-7 in the ASUN with the win.
  • Lipscomb finished with 19 hits, a 2024 season-high.
