Track & Field Shines on Day One at ASUN Championships

CONWAY, Ark. – Lipscomb track & field headed to Conway, Ark. for the first day of the 2024 ASUN Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Thursday. The Bisons put themselves in a strong position for the weekend of competition after the first day with Lydia Miller claiming the squad's first individual ASUN Champion title in the women's 10,000m.
 
As the first day got under way, Anna Richardson kicked things off for the Bisons with a series of strong performances in the opening events for the women's heptathlon to put herself second in the event after the first four legs of the heptathlon.
 
With a seventh-place finish in the 100m hurdles (14.93), a third-place finish in the high jump (1.56m), a first-place finish in the shot put (12.02m), and a fifth-place finish in the 200m dash (26.42), Richardson currently sits second in the heptathlon with 2963 points.
 
The Bisons continued to shine in the running preliminary events that next took over the day in Conway as six Bisons qualified for the finals in their event.
 
Nathan Wallace clocked a 54.23 to finish sixth in the men's 400m hurdles preliminaries and qualify for Saturday's finals while Braeden Ofosu-Kwarteng's 21.48 saw him to fifth in the men's 200m dash preliminaries and qualified him for the finals.
 
Makayla Watson qualified for the finals in the women's 200m dash as her time of 24.37 in the preliminaries earned her third overall.
 
All three of the Bisons' athletes competing in the men's 1,500m preliminaries qualified for Saturday's final rounds as Braedon Palmer clocked a time of 3:47.12 to finish second, Bryan Hernandez-Rios finished fourth with a 3:47.30, and James Schmidt crossed the line fifth with a 3:47.47.
 
Andy Stohr brought home a top-five finish for the Bisons as he recorded a 30:59.44 in the men's 10,000m.
 
The women's 10,000m was an exciting finish to the day for the Purple and Gold as Lydia Miller cruised to a first place finish and an ASUN Outdoor Track & Field Individual Champion title with her time of 36:09.87.
 
Mollie Longmire stayed close on Miller's heels throughout the race, claiming second place overall and a spot on the ASUN Second Team All-Conference with her time of 36:14.87.

Lipscomb's squad will return to the action in Conway, Ark. for the second day of the 2024 ASUN Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday, May 10th.
