NASHVILLE – The Lipscomb University baseball team defeated Eastern Kentucky University by a 10-3 score, Friday evening from Ken Dugan Field at Stephen Lee Marsh Stadium.
Final Score: Lipscomb 10, Eastern Kentucky 3
Location: Ken Dugan Field at Stephen Lee Marsh Stadium
Records: Lipscomb (19-21, 12-7), Eastern Kentucky (7-35, 4-15)
HOW IT HAPPENED
After EKU started the game by cashing in a lead-off walk from
Cole O'Brien thanks to a Greg Caban RBI single, Lipscomb got the run back in the second thanks to a
Damion Kenealy Jr. RBI knock.
In the third, the Bisons added four runs to extend the lead to 5-1. With the bases loaded,
Kai Holm drove in two runs on a single back up the middle. Later,
Jake Berg drove in the third run of the inning with a base hit to score
David Coppedge. However, a bad throw by the EKU first baseman allowed Holm to touch home plate.
After the Colonels used a two-out walk and a double for the 5-2 lead in the fourth, the Bisons returned the blow with an RBI double by Berg.
Lipscomb added a run in the sixth, as
Collin Goda scored after starting the frame with a hit. In the seventh, Kenealy smashed his eighth home run of the season with a two-run job.
Jacob Tobias made it double digits in the run column with a lead-off solo home run, his third bomb of the year to put the game away.
While the Bisons were scoring insurance runs,
Jake Lynch kept the Colonels off the scoreboard in the sixth, seventh and eighth innings. After stranding two runners in the sixth, he induced a 4-3 double play by Silas Shaffer to leave two more in the seventh.
