
Volleyball Opens California Trip with Setback to Pepperdine

MALIBU, Calif. – The Lipscomb University volleyball team suffered a Friday night sweep to Pepperdine University to open their weekend trip in California, Friday evening from the Firestone Fieldhouse.
Final Score: Pepperdine 3, Lipscomb 0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-23)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Pepperdine was dominant in set one, rolling out to an 8-3 lead. Despite Lipscomb earning the side out on a Berkley Mischler strike, the Waves totaled four aces and had a .474 attack percentage to win set one, 25-15.
The Waves kept the momentum on in set two with a 9-3 following a Tristen Raymond kill as the lead swelled to 16-6.
Pepperdine held Lipscomb to five kills and six attack errors in the frame to rout the Bisons, 25-13, in the second frame.
The third set was the most competitive of the match. Tied at 15, the Bisons used an Ella Durham kill and a Waves attack error to lead 18-16.
Unfortunately, an Ella Piskorz service ace helped the Waves tie the set back at 18 and took a 20-18 lead after a Pepperdine block.
Following a Lipscomb timeout, Kenzie Kucks laid down an ace to reclaim the lead, 22-21, but the homestanding Waves won four of the final points to take the set, 25-23, and win the match in three.

KEY STATISTICS
Courtney Jones was the co-match leader in kills with 10 on the night and was a perfect 14-of-14 in receptions on the defensive end.
Sophia Hudepohl added 21 assists, while Kelsey Schenck led the defense with six digs.
Brooklyn Fuchs totaled three blocks on the night.
