ONEOTA, Ala. – Lipscomb Men's Golf had a strong outing at the GMAC Invitational hosted by University of Alabama Birmingham on Monday and Tuesday. The squad finished tied for fourth in a field of 13 squads. The Bisons finished with a combined score of 846 (+6). The Bisons started with a 287 (+7) in the first round but caught fire over the second round with a 273 (-7), the best round of the entire tournament to sit in first place heading into the final day of competition. Lipscomb, however, finished with a 286 (+6) to slip to fourth place.
Lipscomb was led by
Toby Bishop who tied for second, his best collegiate finish. He finished at 205 (-5), shooting under par in each round. He shot a 68 (-2) in each of the first and third rounds to go with a 69 (-1) in the final round. He had 10 birdies and 38 birdies.
Next up for the Bisons was
Minas Manias who tied for 17
th. He carded a 72 in each of the first and third rounds with a 72 (+2) and had his best round with a 68 (-2) in the second round. All told, he finished with a 212. He connected on 33 pars and 11 birdies.
Maxi Klaus and
Oakley Gee were the next two Lipscomb finishers, ending in 25
th and 26
th, respectively.
Maxi Klaus started off with a 73 (+3) but improved with a 71 (+1) in each of the final two rounds for a 215 (+5). Gee had an up-and-down tournament, starting with a 76 (+6) and caught fire with a 65 (-5) in the second round, marking Lipscomb's best round of the tournament and the Bisons only eagle on hole eight. He rounded things out with a 75 (+5) in the final round.
Lipscomb's final team finisher was
Grant Tabar in 69
th place. He finished with round scores of 74, 78, 77 (+19).
Ciaran Murphy also competed as an individual, finishing in 14
th place. He started with a 73 (+3), but shot under par in the final two rounds with a 69 (-1) and 68 (-2), respectively to finish even on the event. He had 11 birdies and 25 pars.
