HOW IT HAPPENED
After each team put up zeros in the first inning, there were not any zeros for a while.
In the second, each team traded runs via the long ball.
Blake Carter sent a 377-foot home run with a launch angle of 37 degrees to put Lipscomb on the board first. However, in the bottom half, Cole Johnson responded with a lead-off shot down the right field line for a 319-foot homer to even the score at a run each.
In the third, it was crooked numbers for both sides. Lipscomb put up four runs in the frame. After two walks and a hit by pitch to load the bases,
Damion Kenealy Jr. laced a base hit up the middle for score two.
Cam Pruitt followed Kenealy with a two-run hit of his own, as he posted a double to give the Bisons the 5-1 lead.
However, it did not last long, as a bases loaded walk by Ty Wisdom and a grand slam by Johnson made it a 6-5 lead for the Govs.
The back-and-forth battle continued in the fourth, as the Bisons scored two more runs to take the 7-6 lead off an RBI ground out by
Keaton Mahan and an Aaron Stelogannis RBI double.
APSU pulled even at seven runs apiece with an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth, but Lipscomb took the lead in the fifth on a RBI double by
Cam Pruitt.
In the sixth, the Governors saw a solo shot by Zion Taylor to pull even once again.
The score stayed that way until the eighth. With
Kai Holm and
Brady Miller on base and with two outs,
Keaton Mahan laced a double through the right side to give the Bisons the 10-8 lead.
Aaron Stelogeannis followed with an RBI knock to extend the lead to 11-8.
Collin Bosley-Smith and
Kaleb Kantola slammed the door for the Bisons in the eighth and ninth on the mound.
