HOW IT HAPPENED
Eastern Kentucky took an early lead in the first inning. David Alvarez singled up the middle and advanced to second on a stolen base. Alvarez later scored on Dylan Littlefield's RBI single to center field.
The game remained scoreless through the next five innings as both teams' pitchers held the offenses in check. The Bisons had opportunities, including
Brady Miller's double down the left field line in the third inning and a single through the left side in the sixth, but could not capitalize.
In the seventh, EKU extended its lead to 2-0 after starting the inning with two outs. An infield hit by Boone Shevey off of
Jace Trautner started the rally for the Colonels. After Shevey advanced to third on Kobe Benson's single, Pedro Moreno delivered an RBI single through the right side, scoring Shevey.
Despite the Bisons' attempts to rally in the later innings, including a single by pinch-hitter
Danny Ramirez in the ninth, they could not break through EKU's defense. The game ended with Eastern Kentucky securing the shutout victory.
EKU had Lipscomb's number in the contest on Saturday, as the Bisons went 3-for-18 with runners on base and 1-for-7 with runners in scoring position.
