NASHVILLE – After a pitch perfect opening weekend, the Lipscomb softball team is receiving votes in the ESPN.com/USA Softball Collegiate Top 25.
The Lady Bisons opened up their season with a pair of big wins at the Sand Dollar Classic over the weekend, earning them 15 votes in the poll.
Lipscomb sits just four spots out of the Top-25, the highest they have ever placed in the national rankings.
In the USAToday/NFCA Coaches Poll, the Lady Bisons are receiving 14 votes, placing them eight spots out of the Top-25.
This is the first time that the Purple and Gold have received votes since late in the 2014 season when the Bisons collected a combined three votes from the ESPN/USA Softball Poll and the USA Today/NFCA Poll.
On Friday morning, junior Mandy Jordan threw a career-high 17 strikeouts while only giving up two hits as Lipscomb shutout out the ACC’s Georgia Tech 1-0.
Later that day, Jordan Fortel pitched a no-hitter against No. 14 Ole Miss in her first outing with the Bisons as Lipscomb defeated the Rebels 3-0.
The performance earned the junior a D1 Softball Pitcher of the Week honor as well as an ASUN Pitcher of the Week honor, and it gave Lipscomb a second consecutive win over a “Power Five” school.
Lipscomb is headed to Florida this coming weekend for the EMU Madeira Beach Spring Invitational where the Bisons are scheduled for five games over three days.
