Box Score PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Lipscomb men’s basketball team lost to the Duquesne Dukes 58-36 in the Kerr Center on Friday night in Pittsburgh.
The Bisons (1-3) were plagued by a season-high 23 turnovers and shot a season-low 29.2 percent in the first-ever meeting between the schools.
On a night where offense was hard to come by for Lipscomb, big man Ahsan Asadullah led the squad with 14 points on 7 of 11 shooting and six rebounds. The sophomore came off the bench in his return and was limited to only 18 minutes of play time after fouling out with 8:40 remaining.
Lipscomb didn’t get its first bucket until Asadullah finished off a pick-and-roll from Andrew Fleming nearly three and a half minutes into the game. It took another 10 minutes before the Bisons cracked double digits as Greg Jones knocked down a jumper at the 6:20 mark to trim Duquesne’s lead to 18-10.
The Bisons put together a 6-0 run to pull within two on a layup from KJ Johnson late in the first half, but the Dukes responded with back-to-back baskets to take a 24-18 lead into the half.
Following two quick layups from Asadullah to open the second half and make it a 24-22 game, the home team went on an 11-0 run to stretch its advantage and never looked back.
Lipscomb turned the ball over 13 times in the final 20 minutes and could never find any rhythm to get back in the game.
The Bisons finished 0-for-18 from long distance, making Friday’s game the first time in the program’s NCAA era it did not make a three-pointer. They had hit from beyond the arc in at least 474 consecutive games dating back to the 2004-05 season.
The teams finished a combined 1-for-40 from three as the Dukes struggled just as much, hitting 1-of-22.
