Softball falls to Tulsa in early Saturday outing

MOBILE, Ala. – It was a case of too little too late for the Lipscomb Lady Bisons.

After spotting Tulsa a 4-0 lead after three innings the Lady Bisons rallied for one run each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to fall 4-3 Saturday morning in the Jaguar Challenge at Jaguar Field.

Lipscomb is 4-4. Tulsa is 5-3.

In the fourth inning Peyton Ward scored on a wild pitch. Her double in the fourth was the first hit for the Lady Bisons in the game. In the fifth Sarah Higgins entered the game and doubled home Khayla Green. Jordan Fortel scored the final run for Lipscomb in the sixth when she ran home when Caitlin Turner was caught stealing second.

Katie Turner opened in the circle for Lipscomb. In 1.1 innings she scattered six hits and struck out one batter. All three runs she allowed were earned. It was the first loss of the season for Katie Turner, 3-1.

Mandy Jordan pitched the final 4.2 innings for the Lady Bisons. She gave up one hit and one earned run. She walked three and struck out six.

Tulsa scored on a double in the first, a triple and a single in the second and a double in the third.

Kassidy Scott, 1-1 took the win for Tulsa. In five innings she allowed five hits and three runs, all earned. She struck out five and did not walk a batter.

Samantha Pochop was credited with her first save of the season. In two innings she gave up one hit, walked one and struck out 2.

 

QUICK PITCHES

  • The first four hits for the Lady Bisons were doubles – Ward, Green, Higgins and Destinee Brewer.
  • Higgins moved to catcher in the fifth inning. It was the first time this season she has played in the field.
  • This was the first meeting between Tulsa and Lipscomb in softball.
  • Fortel leads the team with hits in her last five games. She also leads the team having reached base in her last six games.
  • The Lady Bisons have slammed 10 doubles this season.

 

NEXT

The Lady Bisons close out the Jaguar Challenge Sunday at 12:15 in a rematch with Mercer. Lipscomb beat the Beats 6-5 in eight innings in the first day of the challenge Friday.
