Men's Basketball gears up for Freed-Hardeman on Tuesday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After a few days off for Christmas, the Lipscomb men's basketball team is ready to get back on the court and close out the calendar year on a high note when it hosts Freed-Hardeman on Tuesday in Allen Arena.

Opening tip is set for 7 p.m. on ESPN+ with father-son duo Jonathan and Justin Seamon on the call. The game will be the second part of a double header as the women's basketball team plays at 4 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY
  • Tuesday's matchup will be the eighth meeting between the programs in Lipscomb's NCAA era.
  • The Bisons own a 7-0 advantage, with the last meeting coming in 2013 - a 95-83 victory where Martin Smith scored 23 points and J.C. Hampton added 20.
  • All previous games with the Lions have been played in Allen Arena.

KNOW YOUR OPPONENT
  • The Lions are coming off an 82-56 setback to North Alabama, but the game counted as an exhibition for them.
  • Their only counted loss of the season came to Florida College, 98-92, on Dec. 11.
  • Kortland Martin leads five players in double figures for Freed-Hardeman at 17.4 ppg. He is also tops on the squad with 48 assists, 30 free throws made and a 31.8 minutes per game average.
  • Wanya King is pouring in 16.8 ppg and has made 21 three-pointers.
  • John Musselwhite is adding 15.0 ppg and leads the team with 8.0 rpg. His 29 triples are most on the team.
  • The Lions rank third in the NAIA averaging 12.6 made threes per game and are 19th in free throw percentage (76.6%).
  • As a team, Freed-Hardeman is scoring 90.0 points per game and allowing 73.4.

ABOUT THE BISONS
  • Lipscomb features a balanced attack, with four players scoring in double figures, eight players averaging at least 5.0 points and 10 players averaging at least 10 minutes per game.
  • Junior center Ahsan Asadullah is leading the team in scoring (12.1) and rebounding (7.9) per game … He is coming off a season-high in boards where he pulled down 13 in just 16 minutes against Crowley's Ridge … His 41 total assists are the most among any center in the nation after registering at least three in seven of the nine games this season … He also ranks fifth in scoring and ninth in rebounding among centers … He has pulled down two double-doubles this season after totaling an ASUN-leading 15 last season … Asadullah currently ranks third in the ASUN for assists per game (4.6) and fifth in rebounds, but he has the highest point total in the league this season with his 29-point effort against Belmont.
  • Romeao Ferguson is second on the team averaging 11.9 points and 4.2 rebounds … He has scored in double figures in 8-of-9 games and is second on the team with 12 steals after swiping a season-high three against Trevecca ... He has made at least six field goals in five outings on the year, including a 6-for-7 performance against Crowley's Ridge last time out … His 10 offensive rebounds and 16 made free throws are second most on the squad as well.
  • Despite not scoring against Crowley's Ridge, sophomore KJ Johnson is averaging 9.7 ppg and is shooting 43.5% from the floor … He scored 13 points with six rebounds and six assists against Trevecca … He is coming off an All-Freshman season where he ranked second on the Bisons with 11.2 ppg; making him the 2nd-highest scoring freshman in the program's D-I era.
  • Junior Jake Wolfe  is averaging 10.9 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists … He is shooting 47.3 percent from the floor and paces the team at the free throw line, draining 26-of-33 (.788).

HERD NOTES
  • For the third time this season, Lipscomb reached double-digits in three-pointers made with a season-high 12 in the win over Crowley's Ridge; The Bisons also shot 51.4 percent from the floor.
  • Lipscomb is in the midst of a season-long seven-game homestand; The Bisons are 3-1 thus far entering its final non-conference contest vs. Freed Hardeman on Dec. 29.
  • Of Lipscomb's nine games thus far this season, five have been decided by 10 points or less.
  • Lipscomb's 145 total assists on the year rank 28th in the country. The team's 16.1 assists per game total is the third-best total in the ASUN.
  • The Bisons are among the league leaders in free throws made (113) and attempted (166). The rank 2nd in both.
  • Lipscomb shoots it from deep at a 35.1 percent clip, the 3rd-best mark in the ASUN.
  • Lipscomb returns 10 letter winners and three of its primary starters from a squad that finished 16-16 overall and 9-7 in ASUN
  • Lennie Acuff is in his 2nd season at the helm of the program and his 31st overall as a head coach. His 16 wins last season were the most by a first-year head coach in Lipscomb's Division I era.
 
UP NEXT
Lipscomb not only jumps into a new year on Friday, it will also jump into ASUN Conference action when reigning champ Liberty comes to town. The league's preseason top two teams will battle on back-to-back days.
On Friday, Jan. 1 they will tip at 2 p.m. before starting at 4 p.m. Saturday. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+ from Allen Arena.
